During winter, the asphalt freeze. When the sun make water with the snow, this water coming the asphalt when the temperature is more cold she become ice and broke the asphalt. the ice take more place and the asphalt is broken in several piece. when you drive your car on the road you move the piece a asphalt ant you make hole. after some car and truc we have a big hole call nest of chikens. welcome for this explanation!

Ahah I like your picture! Thanks for your explanation! It's so frustrating and mysterious in spring time to see how many holes there are... They call them "potholes" in English.
